Sailing Day for Three

Sailing Day for Three
Splice the main brace, shiver me timbers and other such nautical nonsense... there'll be none of that on this experience, which offers an introduction to sailing in a friendly and informal atmosphere aboard the 34ft yacht Half Nelson. It's great fun - exhilarating and relaxing at the same time, and the best way to experience the beauty and freedom of the open sea. After coffee, biscuits and a safety briefing, your Yachtmaster skipper will introduce you to the basics of sailing and in no time at all you'll be sailing down to the Hamble or Cowes. After a lunch break ashore you'll be back on the water, and if you're feeling energetic you can put theory into practice and take an active part in the afternoon's sailing on the Solent or Southampton Water. If you'd rather, you can just sit back in the cockpit and let the crew do the hard work while you relax and enjoy an afternoon at sea. All refreshments aboard are also included. All in all a very civilised approach to a wonderful pastime.

Indoor Rock and Ice Climbing
Got a head for heights and nerves of steel? Challenge yourself with a whole day of climbing at the National Ice Climbing Centre - the UK's top indoor rock and ice climbing facility. Even if you're a complete stranger to crampons, this is the place to learn the ropes (pun intended). After being kitted out with climbing equipment (all included) you'll start off with your feet still firmly on the ground during a full briefing on safety and basic climbing techniques. Then put theory into practice with an hour and a half rock climbing session, scaling the indoor wall with expert instruction. After lunch (not included) at the on-site cafe, you'll tackle the ice wall. Using a top-roped belay safety system, you'll climb the 50ft wall of ice, neve (frozen snow) and a variety of precarious angles to give you an exhilarating (and occasionally terrifying) introduction to the sport. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve! At the end of the day you'll receive a photo and certificate to take home.

Wakeboarding for Three
Wakeboarding: a sport so cool, lots of people have yet to learn about it. In fact it's the fastest growing watersport in the country. It's like a cross between water-skiing, snowboarding and surfing (it used to be called skurfing, but that sounded silly). You're pulled across the water by hanging onto a cable, but unlike water-skiing you're attached to a single wide board and it's also a bit slower. So it's perfect for anyone who wants to try a new sport and doesn't mind getting very wet indeed. After a full safety briefing, you'll be on the water and round the cable. You'll start off knee-boarding, which will help you get to grips with the basics and put the theory into practice. The tricky bit is taking corners, but once you've got the hang of that you'll be up on your feet and whizzing around on your wakeboard in no time, experiencing the adrenaline rush of flying across the water. Not even the occasional dunking will wipe the smile off your face.

Family Honda Powerboating
Looking for something different for the family? Blow away those cobwebs with a vengeance in a powerboat experience round the south coast - it's wet, it's windy and loads of fun! The Honda Formula 4-Stroke (HF4S) championship is the most exciting offshore powerboat series in the world - these boats are responsive and manoeuvrable and what more perfect way of keeping the kids occupied at the weekend? You'll start off with a safety briefing and introduction to the boat, then it's time for everyone to get changed into the provided safety gear and racing team kit (a snap of which makes a great screensaver). You and your family willl head out onto Southampton water with an expert driver (usually a current or veteran racer) who'll put the boat through her paces while you hang on tight. You get tuition in how to handle the boat and then about 15 minutes hands-on driving (at the skipper's discretion). The boat operates within Southampton Water and, weather permitting, goes out onto the Solent.

Zap Cat Experience
You're into speed, you're into extreme, and you don't mind getting really wet? Head out onto the water in a Zap Cat! They're lightweight inflatable catamaran hulls with racing engines attached, which makes them amazingly stable and secure, even at high speeds, round tight corners and in conditions ranging from complete calm to large breaking surf (in fact, they were developed originally from life-saving surf rescue craft). Your experience will begin with a briefing on safety and handling, before you head out onto the water with your instructor. He or she will show you exactly what this fantastic craft can do - so prepare for the ride of your life as you speed along, pull tight manoeuvres and hit big air jumps. Depending on the weather and at the instructor's discretion, you might also get the chance to take the helm and try your hand at powering the Zap Cat across open water. There's a RIB powerboat on standby acting as a support boat, and you'll get a thrilling ride on this too.
